FAQ: BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

  1. What is the biggest change, really?
    The biggest change is that the Indonesian Department of Education now recognizes our international programmes. This is very good news.
  2. Do we still need to do the National Examinations (UAN)?
    This is still a personal choice among parents and students, and we will continue to offer if needed. This is what already happens at Simprug.
    Current practice in Jakarta is that the Indonesian Department of Education can issue an “Equivalence Letter” or “Surat Penyetaraan” to schools or their students who wish to study in local schools or universities. We will take advantage of this current practice.
  3. Does this mean that the National Curriculum is forgotten?
    No. Students still study Indonesian history and Indonesian citizenship as part of social studies and humanities like we do now. This is because we must have a sense of our country’s traditions and customs. We continue with Agama because this subject helps in the overall character–building for our children. Indonesian language will continue to be taught because it is part of PYP, MYP and DP.
  4. If we are now BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, does this mean we will have fewer Indonesian students or Indonesian teachers?
    No. This is typical of Diplomat schools only, such as JIS and BIS. We are not a Diplomat school.
  5. Will the school fees be increased as a result of the changes?
    No. School fees are increased based on a variety of factors, one of them being the costs imposed by the already-existing international programmes. If, for example, IBO raises its fees, the School follows accordingly. If textbook suppliers raise their costs, the School follows accordingly.
  6. If there is no major change to how we operate now, why is the School changing its name?
    There are a few more advantages of having the term “INTERNATIONAL” in our School’s name. One of the biggest advantages is that we are more widely-recognised and more highly-regarded by universities and international organizations worldwide. This is because Diplomat schools usually have the term “International” in their names. Furthermore, BINUS is very serious in coming closer to its vision of being “world-class”.
